Board of Directors

  Dr. Spears is Director of Special Programs for the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts. He came to Education and the Arts from Marshall University. However, he began his career as a biology teacher in his home county of Wayne. This West Virginia native constructed one of the state’s first public radio stations and forged early paths in the development of instructional video. He has owned a video production company and an amusement park.
  His twenty-eight years of service at Marshall University encompassed positions from broadcast professor to Vice President for Communications. Dr. Spears initiated the award-winning “We Are…Marshall” branding and culminatedhis Marshall career in the production of the Warner Bros. motion picture We Are Marshall.
  Keith lives in Huntington, West Virginia, and is married to Rita K.(Kelly) Spears, a university adult-student advisor. He has two sons, Eric, a university administrator and professor

in Georgia, and Jason, an attorney and regional director for a medical flight services firm. Dr. Spears joined the Society’s Board in 2001 and has served as First and Second Vice Chairman and Chairman.

  Serving his seventh year on the Board, David is a stock broker for the investment firm of Janney Montomery Scott, LLC.  David’s connection to the Society has spanned many years beginning in the 1930’s when his relatives first served on the Board. David, born 1962  in Wheeling was adopted through The Children’s Home Society when he was a couple of months old and has lived in Charleston ever since.  David is married and has a daughter named Allison.  He graduated from George Washington High School and The University of Charleston.  David is currently the President of the John Adams Middle School PTO, President of Aquatics WV, Elder and member of various committees at First Presbyterian Church, Investment Committee Member at the Presbytery of West Virginia, a member of the Athletic Committee at

West Virginia State University, Past Chairman of Read Aloud West Virginia and a current reader in Kanwha County Schools classrooms, Past President of the Kenna Elementary PTO, and a past-Board Member of The Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team (HYCAT).  David is most proud of being a part of The Children’s Home Society and knows how the important work of the organization can have a real and dramatic impact on the lives of thousands of children and families across the state. He looks forward to working with the wonderful staff and board  to further the over 100 year mission and objectives of the Society.

Pamela Sumpter Cain, 1st Vice Chair, Board of directors

    Dr. Pamela Cain is the Assistant State Superintendent of Schools for the West Virginia Department of Education.  She served as Superintendent in Harrison and Wirt Counties.  She has been a county Special Education Director and Curriculum Director.  During her tenure as Curriculum Director, her county received the most improved test scores in the state.  Her educational career included working in higher education as an Assistant Professor where she trained future teachers.
  As Assistant State Superintendent, she supervises special education, assessment, institutional education programs, international education, curriculum and instruction, federal programs, healthy schools, and student services for West Virginia schools. Pam has earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction and a Masters in Early Childhood from West Virginia University.

   In addition, her credentials include certification in Educational Leadership, Learning Disabilities, Mental Impairments, and Behavior Disorders. 
She serves on several boards and has been active in community service.

Carole "Cookie" Glasser , Treasurer, Board of Directors

  Mrs. Carole Glasser is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. She earned a Master's degree in Social Work from West Virginia University. Upon graduation, she began her career in the former West Virginia Department of Welfare, recruiting long-term foster homes for children with special needs, establishing group sessions with adoptive and foster families by county, and implementing policies to allow interracial couples and single parents the opportunity to adopt children.
  Glasser was called upon to work at a "special" school, which became known as Job Corps, a federal pilot project to help train at-risk children for employment. For five years she worked as a counselor and staff training coordinator before becoming the Director of the Charleston Center. She later became the Eastern
Region Vice President of the

Management and Training Corporation, the company that operates Job Corps.
  Mrs. Glasser participated in several Annual Summits of the West Virginia Human Rights Commission. She also served as a panalist at the West Virginia University symposium on "Ethnic Diversity and Cultural Pluralism in Appalachia."
  She served on the Steering Committee for the West VIrginia High Risk/High Need Youth Study, the Vice Presidential Task Force on National Youth Unemployment, and the Task Force on Equal Opportunity in Recruitment.
  She participated in West Virginia's Kanawha County Dialogue, a program which began in 1976, bringing together individuals with diverse opinions for monthly public group discussions.
  Now retired, Mrs. Glasser is a board member of the Kanawha County Public Library Foundation, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Schoenbaum Family Enrichment Center, the Children's Home Society of West Virginia and the Charleston Job Corps Community Relations Council. She is a member of Temple Israel.
  Her husband is Martin Galsser, a partner with the law firm of Lewis, Galsser, Casey and Rollins. The Glassers are the parents of three children, Brian, Michael and Kristy.

Katherine Dooley, 2nd Vice Chair,

 Letitia Chafin has been a member of the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors since 2008. Letitia is married to Senator Truman Chafin, and resides in Mingo County. Letitia is a practicing attorney with Chafin and Chafin Law Firm. She is a member of the West Virginia State Bar Board of Governors and is a member of the Marshall University Board of Governors.

 Katherine Dooley has served on the Children’s home Society Board of Directors since 2005. Katherine is a practicing attorney with her own Law Firm, the Dooley Law Firm. Katherine serves on the Children’s Home Society Marketing & Development Committee.

Robert "Bob" Foster
Board Member

 

 Amelia Courts lives in Cabell County. She is the Executive Director of the Office of International Schools for the West Virginia Department of Education.

 Dr. Robert Foster has served on the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors since 2008 and is currently a member of the Social Service Committee. Robert is married to Mary Leb and they have two daughters. Robert is employed by the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg; he currently oversees all senior students in community hospital settings. Robert represents the Children’s Home Society’s Greenbrier programs and his wife Mary is a member of the Children’s Home Society’s Lewisburg local advisory council.

 Dale Geiger has served on the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors since 2008. Dale and his wife Mary Lou are also active members of the Children’s Home Society Princeton Advisory Council. Dale is a retired administrator with Concord College and he and Mary Lou currently reside in Athens, West Virginia. Dale serves as chair of the Children’s Home Society Social Services Committee.

 Shelia Hamilton has served on the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors since 2009 and is currently a member of the Marketing & Development Committee and is an active advisory council member in Martinsburg. Sheila and her husband Roland reside in Shepherdstown.

 Becky Jones Jordon is a lifelong resident of Charleston. She is a 1979 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, received a bachelor’s in Social Work in 1983 from West Virginia University and a Masters in Social Work in 1988 from WVU. Becky has been employed as a Psychiatric Social Worker with Thomas Memorial Hospital, a Substance Abuse Counselor with the Department of Corrections, a Rehabilitation Specialist and a Child Protective Services worker with the Department of Health and Human Resources. Mrs. Jordon has been a very active parent volunteer in Kanawha County Schools for many years. She currently serves on the Board of the Fund for the Arts and is the liaison to the Children’s Theater. She also serves on the Board for the Resolve Family Abuse Program, Thomas Memorial Hospital Foundation Fundraising Committee, and a member of the National Association of Social Workers, and St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Becky resides in Charleston with her husband Andrew, and their children.

 David Lambert has served on the Children’s Home Society Board of Directors since 2008 and is currently participating as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. David is the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for the West Virginia Medical Institute.

 Jane McBride lives in Hampshire County. She is the retired Superintendent of the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind where she worked for 32 years, eleven as Superintendent.

 Brian D. Wadsworth is a Manager at Ellis & Ellis, PLLC. He has over 11 years' experience in auditing, income tax preparation for individuals, partnerships, and corporations, and general bookkeeping/consulting for small business. His auditing background includes nonprofit organizations – HUD & multifamily programs; employee benefit plans; manufacturing; governmental; financial institutions; and various other industries and services.
  Brian is a graduate of The University of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science degree, Cum Laude, with a concentration in Accounting.
 Brian is a current member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (WVSCPA’s) and a Past President for the Charleston Chapter of WVSCPA’s. Other professional affiliations include serving as the Treasurer for the Charleston Area Tax Group for the past 8 years and being a member of the Affordable Housing Association of CPA’s.
 Brian is a member of the Bible Center Church in Charleston. He was also a member of the Putnam County Rotary for 4 years, and a past Board member who also served as the Treasurer.

 William E. Robinson is a Partner in the Labor and Employment Law Department of Dinsmore & Shohl. Bill's practice emphasizes the representation of management in employment litigation before state and federal courts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, including claims of sex, race, disability, age and other employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, sexual and racial harassment, breach of employment contract, and violations of ERISA and the FMLA. Bill has extensive experience handling deliberate intent litigation surrounding toxic tort/workplace exposure claims and other workplace injuries. He also represents employers in connection with unfair labor practice charges before the National Labor Relations Board, arbitrations, and wage and hour claims. Bill routinely counsels management regarding non-competition agreements, employment policies and procedures, employment handbooks, supervisor training, hiring and firing issues, and disciplinary actions.
  Prior to joining the firm, Bill served as the Chair of Robinson & McElwee's Labor & Employment Department.

 Jack McVey lives in Raleigh County. He is Regional Coordinator for Homeland Security for the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety and a Management Consultant.
